Winter Self-Care, Herbal Chai + A Giveaway!

Winter Self-Care, Herbal Chai + A Giveaway!

[GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED!!!! Thank you to everyone who entered, and congrats to Kelly Rose Heath for winning!]

I’m SO excited to be partnering with one of my favorite people on this post and giveaway. Max of Roots & Crowns is literally one of the kindest, most warm-hearted people I know. She’s wildly talented and her line of herbal apothecary goods is one of my absolute favorites. We teamed up this holiday season to bring you all an amazing Douglas Fir Chai recipe, a DIY Immune-Supporting Bath Salt recipe and an AMAZING giveaway. One lucky person will win the Ultimate Winter Self-Care Kit that includes:

TO ENTER:

Contest closes on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 11:59PM PST. Winner will be chosen and announced on Wednesday, December 13, 2017.

Adaptogenic Douglas Fir Chai
[Makes 2 16 oz chai lattes]

32 oz (4 cups) of hot water
1 1/2 Tablespoons Roots & Crowns Doug Fir Chai
3 Tablespoons coconut butter
1 Tablespoon tocos
1 teaspoon reishi
1/2 teaspoon ashwagandha
Optional: 1 teaspoon raw honey

  1. Using a tea strainer and jar, or just a large mason jar and mesh sieve, steep chai covered for 10 minutes. [Covering while steeping allows for a deeper, richer flavor.] Strain out tea and reserve liquid.
  2. In a high-speed blender, blend chai liquid and all other ingredients on high for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Pour into mugs, sprinkle with cinnamon and enjoy!

From Max:

Winter is the season of going inward. Of short days and long nights. It’s a time when comfort and warmth are necessary elements of self-care. Here are some of my favorite winter self-care tips:

1.) Bring the Heat: Whether it’s fires in the fireplace, lighting lots of candles, warm baths, going to the sauna, drinking warm beverages, or cooking with warmer/spicier ingredients – follow your body’s wisdom when it comes to telling you what you can do to nurture the warmth during the cold season.

2.) Mind Your Body: It’s easy to become a little more physically stagnant during the winter months because there’s more of a lethargic energy surrounding daylight and the liveliness of the natural world, but keep moving. Bundle up and get some fresh air. Sweat it out.

3.) But Also, Embrace Rest: Winter is definitely a time for being more introspective and reflective. It’s ok not to feel as social and extend yourself as much as you would do in the lighter months. Just as we see the animals getting quieter and going into hibernation, our spirits crave that slower living during this time as well!

Baths with mineral salts are an age-old remedy for soothing sore muscles, healing skin conditions, improving circulation, and speeding up recovery from illnesses. This bath salt recipe is extra warming and immune-supporting. The oils included will help uplift the spirits, open airways for deeper breathing, and also add an anti-microbial, anti-viral aspect of protection for you against seasonal germs.

DIY Warming, Immune-Supporting Bath Salts
[Makes an 8 oz jar]

4 oz epsom salts
4 oz Dead Sea salts*
Essential oils of Rosemary, Eucalyptus, Clove, Lemon
1/2 Tablespoon oil (such as Jojoba, Coconut or Sweet Almond)
8 oz glass jar or metal tin

  1. In a large mixing bowl, add the two different salts.
  2. In a separate small bowl, mix jojoba, coconut or sweet almond oil, then add one drop at a time of the essential oils as follows: 2 drops Eucalyptus, 1 drop Rosemary, 1 drop Clove, 1 drop lemon. Mix well.
  3. Combine oils with salts and mix well so that the oils disperse appropriately.

[Note: I recommend a full 8 oz. of salts for a nice bath, and even sometimes indulge in a double recipe with 16 oz. of salts for an even more luxurious bath. When running the bath, pour the salts through the running water and let them dissolve.]

*Dead Sea salts have over 21 minerals in them and are extra yummy for your skin, but if you can’t find Dead Sea salts, you can use 8 oz of epsom salts instead.

I have to choose three because I just can’t narrow it down to two! I would loooove to try the “rest well,” I currently sleep in a cloud of lavender essential oil. Then ofcourse I want to try the chai. I have been very into milks/hot drinks recently, must be the weather. And finally, I would LOVE to try the coco – confessions of a chocoholic…

I do self care sundays (even though self care should be done daily). That consists of a coconut/ argan/ jojoba hair mask, Amy organic greens powder I use in smoothies as a face mask (powder and a little water until it is the right texture) and I just moved into a new house with a BATH!!!! That being said any of the bath salts (the floral on looked amazing) would be the highlight of my next Sunday! The other product I would love to try is the Rose Face serum from Roots & Crowns. All these products look absolutely dreamy though! Ps already follow all you beauties

There is so much I would like to try by Roots and Crowns, but I feel I would use the You’re Okay Mineral Bath Salts, You’re Okay Roll on and the Roots & Crowns Doug Fir Chai Tea Blend the most. The bath salts would be great in the tub after hiking through the woods or even just a long day at work. The Roll on would become somewhat of a centering ritual mantra I could incorporate into a busy day as it would help remind me to stay in the present moment and not get ahead of myself. Lastly, a homemade chai sounds like the ultimate self-care luxury!

My favorite self-care ritual is to immerse myself in a forest and hike deep into the woods to deepen my connection to the life force energy on this planet and in all living things. Excercise is medicinal and mediation for me; it calms me, centers me and helps me recharge for whatever dreams or goals I’m working towards. I was already following Alison from @alison__wu & Max from Roots and Crowns but, in addition, I’ve followed those required for entry and am looking forward to continuing my Instagram journey with the other recommended accounts!

My favorite self care ritual is to go to bed on time. It may sound simple but investing in time for true relaxation and rest is huge and so often I let it take a back seat in importance. As winter approaches, I have been much better about getting in bed early enough to do some reading and turn the lights out when I know I should. I also never bring my phone to bed with me!
As for Roots and Crowns, I’ve love to try their Doug Fir Chai (it’s so hard to find herbal chais!) and Forest Remedy. It’s so hard to make myself spend time outdoors when the temperature drops and I feel like Forest Remedy could be a good substitute.

I’m currently a premed student and have put a lot of effort into finding self care rituals so that my life is not run by stress. My favorite self care ritual starts with me doing something physical that clears my mind, this usually means yoga but sometimes it’s just going on a walk outside and listening to my favorite podcast. Then I make a big mug of stress relief tea and run a hot bath with Epsom salts and essential oils. Add in some magical soothing music and all my worries float away.
I loved checking out Roots & crowns website! They’re herbal first aid kit for being on the road seems like a game changer to me and is especially appealing because I have upcoming travel plans. I would also love to try to stress relieving mineral bath salt soak- seems like it would fit well into my self care routine!

My favorite winter self care ritual involves watching a movie in the morning! Preferably by the fire with a warm tonic and my breakfast. It sounds silly to watch a movie in the morning but I normally work outside all day (I’m a flower farmer) and staying inside to do something so decandent on my rare days off puts me in an amazing mood! I would love to try Roots & Crowns Doug Fir Chai and the Breathe chest rub! Or any of the bath salts to soothe my achy farmer’s body. (P.S. I follow everyone on Instagram)!

The cocoa dust and the sea buckthorne cleanser look so amazing. Natural and aesthetic. My favorite self care ritual is to wake up early, make a cup of coffee, and just sit and read for a few minutes in the morning. With my cat of course. Reading whatever I want, whatever I am feeling that day. Every day is different, and I love having this flexible routine in the mornings to let my mind warm up and my soul be happy.

Salutations! My absolute favorite self care ritual when I’m having a bad day or a really good one or one that’s in between is to wash my face with my roots&crowns rose serum magic, put on this very specific comfiest outfit, and go explore the woods behind my house. I live next to Marquam Nature area in Portland and there is something about the air out there. It’s crisp no matter the temperature and so rejuvenating to my skin, body, and soul. After that, I usually come home and take an epsom salt+lavender and other essentials I’m feeling that day bath, followed by tea and time to reflect without being distracted by my phone or the internet. Seems to do the trick every time ✨
The item I’m dying most to try is the Ritual Oil now that it’s been released on its own!!! I’ve also been wanting to try the new shimmer stick because well glitter<3

The adaptogens in their cocoa dust will keep me healthy and strong through this stressful time. My favorite self care ritual is slowing down. I think all too often we praise being busy, but being busy is easy. Slowing down is hard. Especially as we move into winter, it’s a season for turning inward. So, I’ve been blocking time out of my patient schedule to allow me to stay in bed a little bit longer or to read a book or do a face mask with some wine and a bath! Whatever it is that feels right to me at the time.

As a philosophy student studying ancient Chinese thinkers, I learned the great importance of Li (ritual). I believe that following ritual practices across all facets of our lives enables us to cherish our relationships with others and ourselves.

I enjoy drawing a bath, slipping in some therapie Himalayan detox salts, sipping a cup of chai tea, and reading something to open my mind to new ideas – right now I’m reading The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius.

I would love to try the Forest Bath: Mineral Rich Therapeutic Woodsy Bath Soak & Doug Fir Chai.

Winter-time!! I love it but my skin hates it. Self-care includes dry-brushing, moisturizing like crazy, and quick baths in not-too-hot water (or else I get dried out). I usually like to go outdoors for walks and hikes, but now that it’s getting colder, I’ve joined a yoga studio where I am trying different styles of yoga for the first time and being more consistent in my meditation practice. Finally, part of my self-care is surrounding myself with the company of loved ones so I enjoy bringing people together for festivities, gift-exchanges, and good wholesome food.

I would love to try the “You’re Okay” bundle especially because I’m coming up on some really challenging parts of my educational training/career development. I also think the “Forest Remedy” would be awesome — I’ve never had a chance to visit the Pacific Northwest but I really want to. The description sounds lovely and puts me in the winter-time mood!

Taking a bath is definitely my top self care ritual. I have an extra long (old style) tub, so no knees stick out, I can stretch fully out in the tub. I’m in the middle of moving to a new apartment and was so lucky to find another apartment with the same size extra long tub. I can’t wait until the move is done, and I can soak in my new tub. I usually keep a variety of bath salts on hand. I like to put a little bit of bubbles into my salt bath, so it’s a little more fun. Lighting a few scented candles, having a glass of wine.
I’d love to try the Forest Bath and the Beloved perfume oil, they both sound delightful!

Hi Alison!

So first off, I would love to try Blues Away and Moon herbal remedies. (I’m emotional!) haha. As for my self care routine.. I do it every Sunday night to kind of regroup and allow myself to get ready for the week ahead mentally. I run a steamy hot bath with epsom salt, grab a few candles, put a face mask on, and turn on Norah Jones. I keep my phone in another room and sometimes I even grab a book. I just want to be present in the moment. I quietly talk to myself and set goals I wanna accomplish during the week. It gives me time to just sit with myself and my thoughts.

Also – followed all of the listed above on IG!

My favorite self care ritual is to get a nice facial. ? I’m an esthetician, and I am usually the one giving the facials, so it’s incredibly relaxing to have one of my esthie friends practice on me! ?? We usually get a diffuser going with some nice essential oils (my favorite right now is peppermint) and sprinkle the hot towels with the same oil. My skin is always so happy after a facial, and it’s pure relaxation! ❤️

I would love to try R&C’s Douglas Fir Chai (chai tea is my go-to holiday drink) and her tinted lip balm (I don’t like lipstick very much because it dries my lips out too much). ❤️❤️

Love you ladies!!! Your blogs are two of my absolute favorites on IG! ?

My favorite end of the day ritual would deffinately be my lavender bath with epsom salts. It is the perfect way to de-stress and soak up some magnesium so that I can transition into a restful sleep!

I love the looks of the Cocao Dust with the 9 mushrooms and adaptogens, I think that mushrooms and chocolate blend wonderfully together. I am also curious about the taste of douglas fir with chai spices, I thinik they would go well together!

My favorite self care ritual is to do something creative. When I’m feeling down or need some time just for myself, I like to paint (something I’m quite passionate about, but don’t always have the time to do), and it’s kind of like my form of meditation. A reset for my mind. A good soak in the tub doesn’t hurt either! From Roots and Crowns I’d love to try the Moon tincture and the Beloved fragrance.

Ok, I love to dry brush in the pm and then massage sesame oil into my skin. I then do some nighttime yoga to get my body to just REST. After, I will write in my journal about what I loved about the day and also what I wished I had done differently (LISTS have helped because thats just how my mind works). Before going to bed I will spray some lavender mist on my pillow and slowly fall asleep. I LOVE IT.
I really want to try Roots and Crowns Douglas Fir Chai (because hello, its chai and herbal…such a rarity!!) as well as the MOON herbal remedy (natural pain relief from period cramps would be amazing). Thanks for having this giveaway! I am so excited for the results 🙂

THIS isn’t is such an amazing offering! And I love all the tips you’ve shared in this post. Winter is such a difficult time for me but I’m slowly starting to cultivate things that help. The biggest self care practice recently though, especially with the holidays and family around, is realizing that if I’m feeling anxious or overwhelmed it’s better to just take a step back and get out of the situation for a bit to do something that fills me up – maybe a walk, a yoga class, some time at a coffee shop, anything. It’s been a challenge to realize that I don’t have to completely compromise what I want and need to do to feel my best because of who’s around or what they may think. Sending so many hugs! And definitely wishing for some of the autumn lip color and ritual oil from the amazing roots and crowns this holiday season.

It’s super important for me to be actively aware of my mental health, especially during these cold and dark winter months. That’s why my favorite self-care ritual is something I practice everyday. In the mornings, I use the Guided Mediation skill on my my Amazon Echo to clear my head and set my intentions for the day. In the evenings, I try my best to be phone-free at least 30 minutes before bed and instead take the time to read while sipping on a golden moon milk to unwind.

1.) Making a cup of chai tea with local honey, turning on the bath tub with warm/hot water and dropping in one of my favorite bath bombs from Lush. I turn on whatever music I am in the mood for and right now that is Christmas tunes. I light the candles and then I soak! I sometimes add oils for moisture or epsom salt to my bath as desired.
2.) First product I’d like to try is the Detox Cleansing Remedy as I have a gene mutation that causes my body not to detox on it’s own. The second product is Beloved sensual mineral bath salts – rose & sandlewood oils because I love taking baths and relaxing.

I am cold natured so my self-care rituals involve bringing warmth to my bones. This often looks like activity (biking, gardening, hiking) and warm drinks (in the summer I love putting frozen berries in my green tea) but my f a v o r i t e ritual is bath time, especially to wind down after a day of pushing my body. I love a hot bath with the works: bubbles, salts and oils, candles, bath bombs, wine, and a podcast. Engaging and relaxing all my senses. I would LOVE to try the “rest well” sleep remedy for some solid z’s and happy dreams, as well as the rose face serum. Although everything on the site looks appealing!

Self Care Is:
Taking a hot bath, filled with essential oils and and fresh flower petals. In my hand is a glass of my favorite Cabernet. A French record is spinning on the turntable, and every candle in the house is burning. The most important part of the ritual is pure, uninterrupted meditation and reflection on life goals and self improvement. ???

Another ritual I love is baths. Living in the NW the woods and outdoors call to my heart, so having the ‘Self Care of Forest’ bundle would be such a treat. It is on the top of my list for a post holiday treat for myself ?

Alison, truly thankful for the opportunity. I love practicing exquisite self care. When there’s a chill in the air, I delight in ending my days with a hot soak – high-vibrational essential oils and flower petals. So, Roots & Crowns “Beloved Sensual Mineral Bath Salts: Aphrodisiac Aromatherapy w/ Rose & Sandalwood Oils” reads divinity. I would firstly like to say how much importance self care has in one’s routine, and with this year being full of loss for me and many around me I have had to put even more energy into rejuvenation and well being than ever before. I have found that my practices for self care in turn allow me to support and care for everyone else who needs it. My daily routine involves a home practice of yoga with some match or jasmine tea followed by an aroma therapy (simple lavender oil is what I have on a college budget) meditation to rebuild and hopefully a bath if there’s time. Another alternative activity is a photo walk around the neighborhood or some figure drawing to loosen things up. I hope you all have relaxing and meaningful holidays ?❤️
Note: i have followed the extra entry tags as well.

After looking through Roots & Crowns web site I decided I am going to try the “Herbal Tattoo Balm for Healing Tattoos & Pretty Much Anything Else” I love having a go-to product with multiple uses, and my hands are a nightmare in the winter. I struggle with dry and cracked hands once the cold weather comes and I think this balm would be a miracle worker for me! I also am going to try the “Sea Buckthorn All-In One Herbal Face Cleanser, Toner, Moisturizer”.. again I love the idea of one product with the benefits of many. I also suffer with dry skin on my face in the winter (pretty my my whole body??‍♀️) and have tried a plethora of different products with little to no luck.. (I did purchase the Avene product you recommended on your PD blog post and am anxious to get it & see results!!) My self care ritual consists of drinking herbal tea, doing a face mask and painting my nails, soaking in the tub & taking the time to meditate on all of the good in my life.? Thanks Alison!?

I also want to tell you that I love your attitude and your daily wisdom. Your are such an inspiring person for self care and self love! ?

My self-care routine is to turn on some zen/wood flute music and soak in the tub with the lights off until I feel like my body is just hot enough. Then putting on a face mask/steam, making a cup of tea, and cozying up with my fur babies for a relaxing movie. There are other things that I do depending on what I’m in need of, but this is probably my most favorite & regular routine 🙂
I would lovee to try the ritual oil and the forest bath soaks!

There are literally So many amazing products by Roots & Crowns, going through every item to see the goodness of them. If I had to choose two, I’d have to saw the You’re OK Stress-Relieving Mineral Soak, and also Breathe Chest Rub. But seriously every product on Roots & Crowns gets my attention! My favorite self Care ritual would have to be turning on very soothing music, lighting a candle with calming aromas, filling a bath with warm water and soaking in calming bath salts that ease the soul. Not to mention having a cup of tea that is calming as well. After this lovely bath I’d get into soft pajamas and probably curl up with my cat or make some art.

It’s my creative playhouse. I enjoy pushing the health points up by sneaking in super foods and healthy flour like quinoa and teff. When I bake for me, i get lost in the flow and feel grounded. When community gathers and enjoy ny treats, that’s a bonus.
Also, hiking in the mountains heals me.

I love elaborate self care rituals but for me the magic is in what I do every day. Right now this means pausing before I lie down in bed to massage calendula salve into my feet and calendula oil down the length of my legs. I began this practice several years ago. Back then my legs buzzed from peripheral neuropathy and somehow the oils dampened these sensations. This is part if the magic in herbal medicine. Sometimes they heal us in ways we can’t explain. All these years later the buzzing is generally gone and this practice has taken on new meaning. It is a time for me to connect with my body–to drop in and inhabit myself–in ways I had all but forgotten. Thank you for offering this prompt. Before writing this passage I kind of wrote off this practice with the attitude ‘it isn’t that much’ and now I see it for what it is — my daily devotion to stay connected to my legs and feet–and the ground beneath me whether I can physically feel it or not. Magic! If I could try any of Roots & Crowns products I would indulge my legs and feet by substituting her T.S. Scar Healing Salve and Rose Face Serum for my handmade oils and salves. I wasn’t quite sure if you are asking which products in the reward package I most want to try — in that case it is the Doug Fir Chai & Cocoa Dust <3

I would literally love to try everything that Roots and Crowns makes but I’d say the top two right now are: You’re Ok Stress-Relieving Mineral Bath Salt Soak and Cocoa Dust: 9 Powerful Mushrooms & Adaptogen Herbs. I have been a huge fan of all Roots & Crowns witchy goodness since my first visit to Maria’s shop Seagrape Soap, another one of Portland’s lovely small businesses where I purchased a few different Roots & Crowns bitters. As a Seattleite I come down to visit Portland as often as possible and I had the great pleasure of Max in person at a flea market where I continued exploring some other products, not once being disappointed by a Roots & Crowns purchase!
One of my go to self care rituals for when I’m feeling down begins by blasting my feel good playlist while brewing myself a cup of tea, gathering a small snack and drawing a bath with essential oils & epsom salt. I often listen to Joe Hisaishi while working on some sort of puzzle or reading and enjoying my snacks.

Favorite self-care is sitting in a tidy, sacred space— quietly, restfully alone, bath or not, to allow for the ability to fall into myself after mothering 5 babies 24/7– 9 days a week (no that isn’t a typo).

As a virgo I love being in nature & forrest bathing, The Forest Bath: Rich Mineral Therapeutic Woodsy Bath Soak sounds super appealing to me. I can just imagine myself sitting in the middle of the forest floor or high in a tree with this gorgeous concoction.

Up next, the Sea Buckthorn herbal face all-in-one cleanser-toner-moisturizer sounds right up my alley because I’m #mommin247 I love fresh feeling skin.

And a 3rd product for fun that I know would be fabulous is the mushroom cacao — such a creative way to add a little spunk to my cup in the morning since I’m not a coffee drinker (drains my adrenals).

My favorite self-care ritual is definitely having a bath. I switch off all electric lights in the room and get maybe way too much candles around me. No music, just pure silence and warm, warm water. There’s no such a thing like this. Also, after that I’m not able to talk with anyone for something like 30 minutes. Another self-care ritual I love (that I have way much often since bath is a special treat for when I REALLY need certain kind of feelings) is my morning warm lemon water. I’m not able anymore to live without it, it’s the first thing I crave in the morning before anything else. Would love to try the elemental notebook and the self care “of flowers” kit.

Be Loved Elixer and the CHAI!!! My favorite self care ritual is a classic but staple.. burning my favorite Volcano candle, drawing a steaming hot bath (with bubbles and salts), making hot tea or lately the cacao with mushrooms, and just relaxing. Sometimes reading, sometimes writing, often times just thinking with myself. I work with people all day so quiet time is a must.

I am following on instagram too 🙂 My ultimate self-care routine includes first, making a cup of ginger turmeric tea and adding drops of my rescue remedy in it, then, putting an anti-aging face mask on, lighting some holiday candles, and climbing into a bath filled with plenty of Epsom salts infused with lavender. Sometimes a small glass of red wine takes place of tea, depends on what kind of day I’ve had. After a 40 minute soak, I make sure to drink 40 oz of water and I also like to have a good stretch session before crawling into bed.
Products I would love to try include the cocoa dust and aphrodisiac bath salts ❤ absolutely love your blog and would absolutely love to win your contest

All of this is amazing! After a long day, especially at work or a long run, I like to soak in a foaming bath with arnica salts with herbal tea, and a good novel. A lot of the products from Roots & Crowns look awesome, but the two that most called to me were the allergy tea and forest bath. The pollen always gets me and I will literally hug a tree – and have.

By the way, thank you for recommending Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed. It was amazing!

My self-care ritual comes with a story; I had a stroke 5 years ago and also had a baby at the same time-whoa! It was crazy times. I’ve heard people talk about about stroke recovery and getting back to normal but not much talking is happening about what “normal” is and there’s that scary little fact that you can never get back to anything normal after a stroke. You have brain damage, your brain is different, you are different. Whatever normal is is now completely different and completely unknown. It took me a few years of dark times to come to this realization and then a couple more to start discivering my new brain and self. I was looking for that thing that makes time stop. That activity that puts you fully in the moment, and brings out all your emotions and makes you feel present. After trying things out, classes and such, much like a kid does, I found it! Trail running!! My self-care ritual is a 3K trail run as many times a week as I can fit in. This not only helps me with self discovery but also helps me regulate my emotions so I can be a better mom which is absolutely my most important value. Which brings me to my two favourite Roots & Crowns products; the “moon” herbal remedy and the “rest well” sleepy-time remedy which both help with things I need to be the best mom I can be!!
You’re an inspiration and a motivation Alison.
Thank you!

Their fire elixir is also enticing. I’ve gotten sick more time living here in three or four months than in the past two years.
I really believe in self care, I try to teach how important it is and remind some of the young women I know that is is okay to take time for yourself. I love tea and soaking in the tub. I also practice yoga daily and keep a clean and tidy home space.

I love this Alison! Self care is so important yet so under valued. I start every morning with dry brushing and an Ayurvedic self massage with sesame oil, I light a candle and put on a guided meditation in order to open space for all that the day will bring in. Usually followed by 15 minutes of yoga and a mushroom elixir. Elixir drinks have taken the place of my morning smoothies during the winter so I’d love to try the Cocoa Dust, and the face/beard mist for my bf? which I would consider self care because I get to be close to that fresh face!

I love what Max said about animal hibernation. I definitely feel like that when it starts to get cold out, and a little guilty for not always wanting to play outside. But it’s a good reminder to allow your self it’s okay to slow down in winter like the animals we are.
Baths are my safe place. I started taking baths in winter because I was just so cold! But it’s become a meditative space where I can let go of my day. I sleep so much better if I’ve taken a bath right before bed. I’m definitely going to try that bath soak recipe!

I’ve been following Roots and Crowns since I got Instagram this summer. Love love her page! And when I first saw her posting, I started following Wu Haus and loving it as well!

My husband has been on and off sick for a while year with cold/flue that develops into a chest infection. For me, self care is about healing, however small that exhaustion or wound may be. If we don’t practice our rituals regularly enough, those exhaustions start to build on top of us and weigh us down. As someone who grew up on the coast I firmly believe in the words of Karen Blixen, “The cure for anything is salt water – tears, sweat or the sea.” It took me years to find my salt water replacement after moving away from the sea, but I now practice my self care ritual at the sauna. Every other week or so, on a Tuesday, I set two hours aside just for me to sweat it out in the sauna. Although I typically go alone and meditate, I feel as strong female bonding, as women from a wide range of ages and backgrounds share the cedar room together for a common and ancient ritual.

I have also been wanting to try Max’s Douglas Fir Chai and Cedar Room Spray (and the new Winter Tint lip balm!) I’ve been trying to incorporate as much forest into my daily life as possible the last few months.

Thanks for sharing these amazing artists with us, all of which I also gave a follow via Instagram.

Cheers!

Two Roots and Crowns products I would love to try and haven’t are, the rose face cream- my face is so extra dry in the pcnw winter, and the cocoa dust- I’ve been taking adaptogens at home for a while, but I would love to try Max’s ready to enjoy mix!

Let’s see… where to even begin with self care regime. Self care is a mix of physical and spiritual for me. And often envolves doing something I would rather not do- like taking that extra money and paying an old debt off, but I’ve come to learn that that is self care. I’m blessed to have a mentor and a also to be a mentor to someone else and the work I do, making inventory of my life, coming to see my part in all my interactions- being put back into right size, and doing that same work for someone else’s growth, that is self care and I do that weekly. Growing up, taking care of my autoimmune disease, psoriasis felt like such a burden, and in my adult hood I’ve tried to make it feel like special time, when I cook healthy meals that heal me inside out and then later at night when I get to spend time with myself putting on creams, ointments, lotions whatever it may be, is an act of self care. After all that, waking up early on a day off, making coffee and sitting in my dark room with nothing but candles, writing in my journal, feels like the most luxurious thing I could do… and that might be my favorite. But I don’t think I could enjoy it, without doing the work of everything above!

As a first time Momma to a wild child I found myself putting self care on the back burner for the first year of her life. I was left completely depleted and realized that as a Mom we sometimes have to put ourselves first. We have to replenish our souls and take care ourselves in order to take care of our little ones. Although I don’t get a ton of time to do all of the self care rituals that I would like to, even just a simple hot bath (by myself) does wonders for me. Also being completely ok and not feeling guilty about saying “yes” to lunch with a friend or an aerial yoga class even if it means leaving my daughter with her Grandma for an hour. If I can’t go get a massage then I massage myself with coconut oil and put something comfy on after and just relax.
After looking at roots and crowns website I honestly want to try every single product minus the beard oil? My top two faves to try would have to be the You’re Ok Stress-Relieving Mineral Bath Salt Soak and the “Be-Loved” Aphrodisiac Organic Remedy

Morning Ritual: I consume a full glass of water with ACV and then a cup of tea before anything else happens! Then I spend time getting inspired and setting intentions. I use a few books and a journal for this practice. Keeping this a regular practice has been so important- especially since I started graduate school.

When I need a little more: I take a bath, attend a restorative yoga class, or go for a long hike. I leave the cell phone far away.

Self care is something I’ve been known to overlook because life gets busy for us all! It definitely needs to be a priority. Clearing my mind with meditation and then reflecting on life with journaling has been my main way. I had bought a few products that I absolutely love, the you’re ok roll on stress relief has been so helpful and I had gotten the tattoo balm and foredt clearing room spray. All of the products are so well made and I love supporting small businesses. I would like to try the cocoa dust and the you’re ok bath soak (which I bet is so relaxing, going off of my experience with the roll on!) Cheers!

My favorite self care is taking a 5-10 min break from the world and doing a guided meditation with the headspace app (great for newbies!) and spending the extra time in the morning doing a quick face massage while putting on my daily mositerizers. What I’ve learned is self care isn’t always long processes, but rather the little things we do to remind ourselfs to love yourself.

Mostly I like the Herbal love kit and tje ritual box,
Because it would fit perfectly to my favourite self care treatments. I’m a nurse and while watching and caring for other people my body is often forgotten. I try to calm it down with little outtimes like a long bath or painting, baking, whatever.
Wish me luck! I need it.
Much love

For me, self care is health care! My self care routine changes every season. Right now, I love to get up early and do a candle lit yoga session while it’s still dark outside. Followed by a morning walk to get a fresh nose. When I get back home, I take a steaming hot shower with some eucalyptus oil after first dry brushing myself. I put on a comfy sweater, some tights and make myself a big bowl of oats with all kinds of goodies and a matcha latte. I just read the newspapers (with my cat on my lap) and catch on on some blog posts. I believe the Roots & Crowns Forest Bath & Roots & Crowns Cocoa Dust would be a perfect addition to my winter routine.

Packed schedules and an endless to-do list sometimes leaves us exhausted at the end of the day. The times when self-care is most important for me is when it is the last thing I feel like doing. It is then that I know it is something essential to stay grounded. I love filling up a hot bath and adding relaxing essential oils like Roman chamomile and lavender. I try to remove all electronics and just enjoy my breathing and the moment. I would love to try the Rose Face Serum + Smooch Lip Balm to help me feel and look my best in the cold months before my wedding! In addition, the mineral soaks would be an amazing experience for my self-care baths!

I would love to try the “Blue’s Away” Uplifting Remedy. I’ve been really into adding bitters to some club soda lately, so this looks like something I would like! I would love to win the Ultimate Winter Self-Care kit as last week I was diagnosed with PCOS and pre-diabetes and am currently re-learning the art of self love. I have had to radically alter my diet and lifestyle and have found the recipes on the WuHouse blog so incredibly helpful. Obsessed with all of this. The rose herbal face cream & forest bath salt sound RIGHT up my alley, but every Roots & Crowns product sounds luxurious. Even though my morning routine of yoga, meditation, tea, & reading is a perfect, grounding way to start my day, I think my favorite self-care ritual is bath time, because each bath can be so different, depending on what I need. I can gather all my plants & crystals to surround the tub with, I can add citrus or flower petals to the water, I can add salts or a bath bomb, or I can just light a candle & get a good book. The restorative nature of immersing the body in water never feels like wasted time, & the fact that each bath can be so different & yield such different forms of relaxation is rewarding to me.

I just met Max at the Portland Bazzar, and she seems as beautiful as the products she makes. Go her!
My ritual usually includes a long bath and making a comforting meal for myself– yes, I have enjoyed pasta whilst in the bath.
I bought a roll on fragrance at the bazzar but was so tempted to buy the bitters/tinctures she offers for fun winter cocktails. Plus, I saw a bunch of people buy the rose face serum. BUT unfortunately, I have been dealing with some serious winter eczema and since baths are my go-to relaxation method, the salts she makes would be amazing for me. And any other product that would help with this terrible winter itch! All of these vendors look amazing.

My favorite way to unwind and relax is to hike, or take in the nature that surrounds me. This followed by relaxing at home by the warm fire and enjoy some yoga and stretching. If I had to pick only two products from Roots&Crown that I feel would definitely enhance my relaxing rituals and happy states of mind they would have to be the Sea Buckthorn Face Serum an exfoliant, cleanser and moisturizer, which would help replenish. the skin especially during the dry winter months. Also contains Carrot Seed, which is a natural spf! The other product I would absolutely love to try would be the ‘Cocoa Dust’ with bio-available medicinal mushrooms full of antioxidants, and adaptogens and other beneficial herbs that ease muscle tension and Gingko which provide clarity and focus to the mind. I would like to add the cocoa dust to a bit of coconut milk and or make a baked good and sit by the fire with the ones I love most.

I love to do a self care ritual on Sunday nights to relax and prepare myself for the week ahead. This usually consists of showering in the evening, applying rosehip oil to my face and neck, and running some jojba oil through the ends of my hair. I love doing natural facemasks and a nose strip as well. While I’m waiting for the facemask to dry I will usually turn on my diffuser, put a couple of drops of lavender essential oil in and make a cup of tea and snuggle with my kitty. I love sitting in the space I’ve created for myself with some twinkle lights and looking at all the plants in my home and just taking some deep breaths and giving thanks to a few things in my life. It is so important to take time for yourself, even an hour out of the week so you can feel rejuvenated and recharged. My favorite self care ritual is waking up in the morning before everyone else with no external alarm clock, I rely completely on my internal clock. I keep my phone off. I heat up 8 oz of water, pour in a mug and add one drop of lemon essential oil to hydrate my body. While the water cools, I do 10 minutes of guided mediation. After I meditate, I drink my warm lemon water and do my daily gratitude practice. I write 3 people I am grateful for, 3 things I love about my body, 3 things I love about what I do for a living, and 3 things I love about where I live. When that is finished, I will do a workout based on how my body feels-sometimes its intense cardio other times its yoga, but its about listening to my body.

Rituals… when I first began following your blog, and seeing your pictures of your baths , I was only beginning a journey of self love and care . One that I had only begun st the age on 25 . I am big into athleticism, and as a yoga teacher I spend a lot of time teaching class, taking class, and always active and on my feet. So my favorite ritual is to be coming home, put the tea kettle on, start the bath to which I add salt baths, esssential oils like lime , eucalyptus bath oil, and you inspired me to put rose petals. The bath runs , the hot water is ready and I make myself a chai tea with a little coconut butter and almond milk . I slip in the bath , with my tea there to sip and the petals floating around me and I close my eyes , so I can listen to a classical music playlist .

Having taken a look at the products , the two I would lost like to try are beloved sensual ritual bath salt and the sea buckthorn all in one face cleanser , moisturizer, toner .

One of my favorite things to do when I’m feeling stressed or overwhelmed with work is to make myself a thermos full of herbal tea, put on my coat, and take a long walk to think and sip my tea. It clears my head and seems to put everything in perspective. After moving from a warm city to the cold northeast, I am on the lookout for an effective moisturizer and Roots and Crown’s Rose Herbal Cream looks like a dream. Shout out to Max for creating and sharing literal magic with Roots & Crowns. I’m really hoping the elederberry syrup and lung tonic come back in stock for me to try sometime soon! My favorite self-care ritual is simply laying flat on the ground for at least 10 minutes. Being still. Breathing. As one of my favorite teachers Jennifer Armbrust says, “we are never not supported by the earth”.

I want to try the winter lip balm to keep my lips protected from the winter weather and the cocoa dust to protect my immune system from the inevitable winter ills. All the products look great though. My current ritual is to curl up in a chair with my dog warming my feet and watch the trees in their exposed state, reminding me to shed what I don’t need in my life. Thx for holding a giveway!

All the roots and crowns products look so nice and made with great intention. The rose serum and you’re OK line seem up my alley. For my self care- I’ve been making time for pottery and being crafty. Working with clay is so meditative and grounding for me. Thanks!

My favorite self care activities inlcude soaking in my tub + taking hikes.

I want to try the forest clearing smudge wand and the aphrodisiac and you’re ok bath salts. Because, then it’s like I would be hiking + soaking all at once! 🙂

My favorite self care ritual is a good hike followed by a relaxing bath with lots of epsom salt! The Roots & Crowns products I most want to try are the winter tinted balm and the shimmer stick because 1. A subtle lip color can work wonders and 2. Can’t go wrong with some glitter around the holidays.

I would love either the Elderberry Syrup or the Forest tincture! The tinctures remind me of natural remedies I group up using and reminds me of Poland. When I need some extra self care I’ll fix myself a cup of tea or coffee depending on the time of day and draw myself a bath. I often add salts to the water, and almost always drop in some lemon, tea tree or eucalyptus oil. Anything to reenergize myself. I followed all of the blogs on Instagram. My username is almostecstatic. Thank you for holding this giveaway. Very sweet.

I would love to try the facial oils! I started using oils a couple months ago, and they have transformed my skin. I’ve never had clearer skin! I’d also love to try the shimmer stick to make my now-glowy skin even glowy-er ✨. My favorite self care rituals are taking morning walks before the sun even comes up and making and enjoying healthy-ish desserts while watching Survivor. Accounts followed!
